Chosen, Not Just Collected
Journal Entry No. 2 — Meadow at Noon
People ask me all the time what makes Meadow at Noon different from other gift shops. The answer is simple, but it's also the whole heart of this place: I hand-select every piece I'm drawn to.
Take butterflies, for example. They remind me of my mamaw. Every single time I see one, I feel like she's right there with me. That feeling is exactly what led me to a butterfly dish — the kind you'd keep your jewelry in — and it became another quiet representation of her and my grandfather, tucked into the store for someone else to find and love the way I do.
Things simply aren't made the way they used to be. The quality is different now, and I feel that difference every time I hold something old in my hands. That's why I love shopping antique stores, consignment shops, and the kinds of places where every piece already holds a story before it ever reaches me. I love recycled glass too — it takes me straight back to the dishes we had growing up.
I choose pieces that have been staples in my own life, but I also choose pieces I know are unique to someone else's. I've always been drawn to bigger and bolder — oversized lamps, statement light fixtures, large mirrors with a vintage soul to them. Furniture that wears its history a little, with some wear and tear that tells you it's been loved before. Surround all of that with plants, and a room instantly feels homey, grounded, and calm.
Meadow at Noon isn't just another retail gift shop. It holds meaning. And the vision for it is so much bigger than what it is today.
I'm genuinely excited to watch it unfold — to feel like this passion project is giving something back to others in its own small way. The meaning behind this store has done something for me too: it's let me feel like I'm putting down roots.
This was never about Meadow at Noon becoming some wildly successful name known across the nation. It's about building a space full of stories and meaning — a place that feels peaceful and calm, but also bold and fearless, all at once.
